Like van Gogh, he paints just about every day, documenting visual impressions of various locations in the country. However, unlike van Gogh, who had sold only one painting during his brief career, René is well-known in the art community and makes a living by selling his paintings. Also, unlike van Gogh, his life doesn't appear to be tormented :) And we all hope that his painting career will be long and blessed! He is on our "Artists to Watch" list, so visit his blog frequently and start collecting his beautiful Dutch landscapes, and pretty soon you will feel like you are breathing the North Western European air that van Gogh, Vermeer, and Rembrandt had once breathed.

Beautiful plein airs! I can't believe that you have finished each painting in just one day!
ReplyDeleteDo you also create any studio paintings - maybe only when it's rainy, I guess... And what motivates you to paint everyday outside?
Your pictures are magnificent!
ReplyDeleteHé René - you are here too! You know I love your work ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you all, and thank you soo much for this article! I am really flattered!! I'll try to paint each day Peter, they arn't that big, 9 x 12 inch (24 x 30 cm.) and usually I maneged them finishing in 2 hours. On rainy days I tend to prepare board or clean up my studio or all kind of silly stuff, but when it's keep raining I go outside to paint as well, knowing that you find all kinds of spots you usually never would think of, ... under bridges, parking lots, shopping entrances and so on. The main motivation to paint outdoor each day was by and English painter (John) from Suncage, he made a so called Limner contract with himself and while reading his entrances, I knew I wanted to do that as well, never thought it would become that addictive, and now six or seven years later I still try to paint each day, this became such a habit I feel guilty when I skip one or two days.
ReplyDeleteOw the link to that Limner contract:
